Dear Parent/Guardian:
Summer will be over soon and a new school year will begin in the Winslow Township School District. When our students return, they will see that we have been busy making improvements in several of our buildings.
In the High School, classrooms and lockers have been painted, floor tiles have been replaced in the hallways, new carpet in the library and auditorium and new window shades have been ordered for the entire school. At the Middle School, the roof has been replaced and student lockers have been repaired and painted. The hallways have been painted at School No. 5 and all of our lower elementary schools (Schools No. 1 – No. 4) have new computer rooms. Other building projects have also been completed district-wide.
At Schools No. 3, No. 6 and the High School, we have new principals and Dr. Maureen Grippen has been appointed the new Director of Special Programs. We will be piloting a new mathematics series this year (Grades K-6) and we will continue to update our curriculum. We have also expanded our technology resources with the addition of iPad II and iPods throughout the district.
In an effort to make our schools safer, the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act goes into effect on September 1, 2011. This law is intended to strengthen the standards and procedures for preventing, reporting, investigating and responding to incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying. Creating a safe teaching and learning environment in all of our schools is a priority for everyone. The Winslow Township School District Anti-Bullying Policy (#5512) is now on our website and we encourage all parents to read it thoroughly. This policy will be strictly enforced.
We are excited about this school year; however, your child’s success depends greatly on your involvement and your support. Working together, we can continue to make our schools better.
Our teachers and administrators are looking forward to an exciting new school year and we will see you in September.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
As we prepare for a new school year, I would like to take this opportunity to point out two (2) significant changes to our Student Code of Conduct. First, Board Policy #5516, which addresses Electronic Devices, has been revised. As a result of the problems which occurred in our schools due to improper use of cell phones, iPods, etc., students will not be permitted to use electronic devices while school is in session. Students who do not conform to our policy will be dealt with as follows:
o First Violation: Electronic device will be confiscated for 30 days, parents notified.
o Second Violation: Electronic device will be confiscated for 60 days, parents notified.
o Third Violation: Electronic device will be confiscated for the remainder of the school year, parents
notified.
Another change made for this school year will be the enforcement of our Dress Code Policy #5511. Last
year, students were dressed inappropriately while in school and at school activities. Please review the student dress code that appears in your child’s student handbook and discuss the need to be properly dressed for school, particularly if your child attends the High School or Middle School.
These policies (Electronic Devices and Dress Code) will be strictly enforced from September 6th to June 30th as directed by the Superintendent. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action according to the district’s Student Code of Conduct.
We believe that an orderly learning environment is necessary to ensure that our students are given every opportunity to be successful. Your help, cooperation and support of our efforts will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
The Winslow Township Board of Education recognizes that child and adolescent obesity has reached epidemic levels in the United States, and understands that poor diet combined with lack of physical activity negatively impacts on student health and their ability and motivation to learn. The Winslow Township Board of Education is committed to:
- Providing students with healthy and nutritious foods;
- Encouraging the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat milk and whole grain;
- Supporting healthy eating habits through nutrition education;
- Encouraging students to select and consume all components of the school meal(s); and,
- Providing students with the opportunity to engage in daily physical activity.
The United States Department of Agriculture and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture established regulations regarding nutritional standards. These standards have become part of the Child Nutrition Regulations required by the federal government. Under these guidelines, the following items may not be served, sold, or given out as free anywhere on school property at anytime before the end of the school day:
- Foods of minimal nutritional value; (please click here for listing)
- All foods and beverage items listing sugar, in any form, as the first ingredient; and,
- All forms of candy.
We ask that all of our school families make a special effort to abide by these regulations, especially when considering sending party snacks and refreshments for classroom celebrations.
If you have any questions, you may direct them to your school principal.
