Welcome to School #5’s website!  Our school is a wonderful place where children grow and thrive academically and socially.  We provide a top-notch Education which focuses on the whole child.  Building a solid educational foundation is crucial in preparing students for today’s world.  We do this using up-to-date and innovative teaching strategies and resources.  School #5 utilizes a balanced literacy approach in teaching reading and writing.  Teachers utilize a MacMillan McGraw-Hill reading series, the phonics-based Wilson reading program, and Guided Reading and Writer’s Workshop strategies. 
     Although teaching reading and writing is a priority for us at School #5, we also provide instruction in Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Spanish, Music (General Music, Chorus, Band, and Strings), Technology, Library Skills and Health/Physical Education.  Other programs available at School #5 include: Conflict Resolution, Peer Mediation, MegaSkills, Just Say No, Gifted and Talented, and the Kool Kids Mentor Program.
     We are very proud of our Home and School Association. They support numerous activities for our students including Student of the Month awards, outstanding assemblies, author visits, the School Store, Book Fair, and Yearbook.
