High School Proficiency Assessment

February 18, 2010

To All Students, Parents, and Guardians,

On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, we will begin the process of verifying and administering the New Jersey Department of Education High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) in the areas of Mathematics and Language Arts Literacy. The HSPA attempts to measure whether or not a student has gained the knowledge and skills identified in the Core Curriculum Content Standards, adopted by the State Board of Education. Verification and testing will take place Tuesday, March 2nd through Thursday, March 4th.

All Grade 11 students are mandated by the New Jersey Department of Education to take the HSPA. Additionally all Grade 12 students that have not successfully met all requirements set forth by the NJDOE must take the HSPA. All test-taking students will come to school at the regular time. All other students will come to school later, and must utilize a three (3) hour delay of their regularly scheduled bus.

All staff and students will report to homeroom upon arrival. The Session A exam for that day will be rescheduled starting with Monday, February 8th, as the first make-up date.If the entire school day is cancelled, exams will continue with the original schedule and the cancelled day will be rescheduled starting with Monday, February 8th, as the first make-up date.

New Entrants
New entrants that arrived prior to and including December 11, 2009 are responsible for the contents of the mid-term exams and should be tested accordingly. New entrants that arrived on or after December 14, 2009 are required to take mid-term exams; however the results should be used as a diagnostic assessment.

Absent Students
Students who are absent on the day of a mid-term must schedule their make-up date with their instructor. The scheduled date will then be forwarded to the appropriate grade level administrator by the instructor. All exams are to be completed no later than ten school days after the date of the students’ return. (Mid-term dates are not included in this calculation.)
