The Winslow Township Office of Student Support Services provides direct, indirect, and consultative services to meet the individual needs of all students receiving special education and/or related services. The department is responsible for the identification of students who may have a potentially disabling condition that adversely affects educational performance. Once the students' needs are identified, the Office of Student Support Services works to ensure that students receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (F.A.P.E) within the Least Restrictive Environment (L.R.E.). Services provided to students may include, but are certainly not limited to: special education programming, speech/language therapy, in-school counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral support services. These services are provided by various skilled professionals such as: school psychologists, learning disabilities teachers-consultants, social workers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
During the 2006-2007 school year, the Office of Student Support Services has implemented several new and exciting resources to support the needs of students and families living within the Winslow Township School District. Of particular mention is the employment of a full-time behavior analyst to support the growing incidence of autism at the primary elementary level. The district takes pride in working to meet the growing needs of students with autism, and is one of few school districts in southern New Jersey to employ such a professional on a full-time basis. Also, the development of Special Education parents to communicate directly with the department Supervisor. Our office is enthusiastic as we enter the 2007-2008 school year where even more services/programs will be implemented to support the growing needs of students receiving special education and/or related services
