H.S.A. Teacher Spotlight
Teacher of the Year, Ms. Maloney

Mary Lou Maloney has been a certified teacher/librarian for 24 years and has been working with children at Winslow School #4 for 22 years! Ms. Maloney received her inspiration to become a librarian from a very special person when she was growing up. This person was Elaine Pierce, one of the best storytellers around and the mother of another of our teachers at School #4, Mrs. Yonker. When Ms. Maloney went to college, she studied to be both an elementary teacher and a librarian. When asked what her favorite thing about being a teacher is, she stated, "watching the children get excited about learning and books. Literature is an important part of a person's life". The most valuable lesson Ms. Maloney believes that she teaches children is "a library is a place that takes you on an adventure. You will learn mnay valuable things while there. You will also use the library to seek information. Your imagination will run wild when reading books". Ms. Maloney's favorite authors as a child were Dr. Seuss and Beverly Cleary. If you have not had the opportunity to meet Ms. Maloney, please stop by our newly renovated library. She inspires our children to love reading everyday.
