The best time to talk about common sense is before you need to use it.  Parents talk to your children about common sense in advance.  Give children practice in using common sense by posing questions such as:

*You get up too late to catch the school bus.
*You smell smoke and see fire in the kitchen.
*Your best friend stops acting friendly.
*Someone offers you drugs.

What does your common sense tell you to do?
