GREAT WEB SITES FOR COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING

 

So many resources are available on-line that it would be impossible to list them all.  However, the sites below provide an excellent start for college planning, scholarship search, and financial aid inquiries for students, parents, and educators.   Please let us know if you have found a helpful site that is not listed here, so that we can be sure to include it.  Questions???  WTHS school counselors are happy to assist you in your search. 

www.collegeboard.com (College Board):  This site offers a wealth of information from tests (SAT/PSAT's) to planning for college, finding the right college, paying for college.  Visitors to the site may select a track for parents, students, or educators.

www.nextSTEPmag.com (Next Step Magazine):  The site helps locate colleges by majors, provides informative articles, and offers the opportunity to e-mail experts with your questions.

www.ACT.org (ACT):  This is a "first visit" site that offers a comprehensive list of information that may be accessed by a parent, student, or educator track.   It has excellent information on college and career planning as well as financial aid supports.

www.aie.org (Adventures in Education):  News about college experiences, financial aid timelines, and answers to frequently asked college-planning questions in English and Spanish

www.allstudentloan.org (All Student Loans Group):  Learn about different types of financial aid as well as calculate your cost for college

www.aesmentor.org (American Education Services):  On-line applications, search for colleges, and discover your learning type

www.educaid.com (Educaid):  Apply for student loans and learn how to save for college

www.fastweb.com (FastWeb):  This highly praised web site will direct you to scholarships for which you may be eligible.  It includes a no-fee registration process and will also provide you e-mail reminders for deadlines for applications, if you wish.

www.slxpress.com (Student Loan Xpress):  Download a free borrowing guide.

http://studentaid.ed.gov (Federal Student Aid):  This government-run web site has detailed college-planning timelines as well as access to the online version of FAFSA

www.wiredscholar.com (Wired Scholar):  This site lets you know what colleges are really looking for, what scholarships you qualify for, evaluating acceptance letters, and more

www.savingforcollege.com (Saving for College):  It is never too soon to begin saving for college.  This site helps you explore options.

www.collegenet.com (CollegeNET): This unusual site allows students to apply to several colleges online while allowing the repetitive information to be transferred from one application to another.  Its database for online applications numbers over 1500.

www.CollegeView.com (CollegeView):  This site offers campus tours, career and minority information, and profiles of over 3,800 colleges/universities.  Also offered are college applications, minority scholarship search, and college admissions information.

www.commonapp.org (Common Application):  The Common Application is the recommended form for 227 selective, independent colleges and universities.  Hard copies of the Common Application are available in the College and Career Center.

www.nces.ed.gov/ipends/cool/ (IPEDS College Opportunities On-line (COOL)):  This site is overseen by the National Center for Education Statistics in the U.S. Department of Education.  This site assists families and students in understanding the differences among colleges and how much it costs to attend college.

www.petersons.com (Peterson's):  This is another excellent, comprehensive site that includes access to resources such as books, Web Sites, online products, and admissions services.
